I currently have a 2 person Kelty tent that weighs in at 8.5 lbs. I just came off a 75 mile hike of the Appalachian Trail with this tent and the weight was killing me. My resolution was to find a lighter tent, plus I didn't need a 2-person.
I felt all I needed was a single person tent but it had to be lighter. I read many reviews and came away with the impression that the Nemo Obi 1 was that tent. One of the drawbacks was the price but this price on Amazon was $130 cheaper than elsewhere.
After doing a couple of dry-runs in the back yard, I took it out to the woods for a 3 day hike (weighing in at 2 lbs 10 oz). I came away very impressed. First of all you can put it in confined areas, and it goes up quickly. The vestibule is very large and adequately held my large external frame pack. I am 5-11 and I easily could stretch out inside. Lots of room to put my sleeping pad and bag, but also clothes and my shoes. I had to work on some foot blisters and could easily sit up and do that. The zippered entrance is easy to get in and out. I had the zippered half of the vestibule tied back to star gaze but when it started raining that night, it closed easily and the next morning I didn't notice any inside condensation. Everything stayed nice and dry, including my pack in the vestibule. It was easy to pack everything from inside the tent into the pack the nest morning before I had to go out into the pouring rain. Probably one of the best parts was the take-down in the rain. Once you unhook the inner tent from the poles, and pull the poles out, the tarp just collapses onto the inner tent keeping it dry. I then packed it into it's waterproof stuff sack (packs down to about 8" x 6"). The next night was just the opposite to erect the tent, and it was still dry inside.
Bottom line:
- Great price
- Light weight (and packs small)
- Spacious for 1 person
- Easy to erect/takedown
- Good vestibule room

Purchased for lightweight backpacking. The intended audience is people who weigh every item and choose the hat that is 10 g lighter. If you are looking to lighten up the "big three" and don't share your tent, this is an excellent choice. It sets up quickly and intuitively. The only surprise is that the logo for the fly is printed on the inside. True free-standing, but more room if staked. Some nice touches, like reflective material in the tie-downs for finding your way back at night. Check out the dimensions and see if they will work for you. I am 5'4", 125 pounds. Once the tent is up, my bear can is placed outside, and bag is rolled out, there won't be much in my pack, so it fits inside with me. The fly forms a vestibule big enough for a lightweight pack and boots. The fly can be pulled back for views and warm nights or zipped down to make it very storm-proof. The tent packs into a nicely-designed stuff bag and pole bag, but most folks who care this much about weight will leave them at home. I haven't taken it on a trip yet, but it seems well made and designed. This is no car camping tent. Don't order it if you are looking for something roomy. I emailed customer service to see if there were an owner's manual. There is none, but they were very responsive.
